In this episode, Dr. Anjhula Mya Singh Bais talks to YPOer Jay Reid (YPO Global One). In March of 2018, while Jay was away on vacation, his 14 year-old son died by suicide in the attic of his home. Jay’s world was shattered. He thought he was raising happy kids, but the truth of his son’s deep struggle had been hidden from him until that moment. A grieving father, he started his search for understanding and began his mission to reach parents and families to start raising greater awareness of the conversation they need to be having with their children. Together, Anjhula and Jay consider how to support families and young people who are facing extreme circumstances, including young people with severe depression and suicidal thoughts. His generosity and wisdom will stay with you. A lifelong entrepreneur, Jason Reid is the Co-Founder of National Services Group. NSG is the majority owner of various construction companies across the USA. He is also a partner and CEO coach at CEO Coaching International, and a long-time member of Vistage and YPO. Jason is also an Ironman finisher, black belt in Tae Kwon Do, has written multiple books ranging from children’s books to business books and likes to spend his weekends playing guitar. On his quest for answers, Jason spoke with countless families, parents, doctors and mental health experts across the nation. These raw, emotional discussions form the heart of his documentary, Tell My Story. They also helped shape Jason’s practical approach to preventing suicide: owning our mental health. Through his TED talks, his nonprofit ChooseLife.org and his programs for professionals, Jason is on a mission to transform the conversations we have about mental health and suicide.
