In this episode, Sarah Beamish guides us to consider how parents and families can equip their children with a respectful understanding of human rights, and the potential impact on mental health that comes from avoiding the topic. They look at how families can instill a respectful understanding of bodily autonomy. Sarah Beamish is a 35-year-old lawyer and human rights activist based in Toronto, Canada. Her legal work focuses on public interest, social justice, and human rights issues, with an emphasis on work with Indigenous people. She also teaches a graduate course called International Legal Challenges at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto. She has over 20 years' experience in the human rights field, and at 33, became the first Canadian and youngest-ever Chair of the International Board of Amnesty International, a role she held until April 2021. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, a Master of Global Affairs, and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law, where she was awarded the faculty's prizes for achievements in human rights and feminist analysis of law.
