YPO Live: Decarbonizing the Empire State Building: Challenges and Successes
1h 3m
In this session, you’ll join three decarbonization leaders from Buro Happold (BH) - a global practice of engineers, consultants and advisors - as they explore what it takes to decarbonize the built environment and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
And they’re starting with one of the most iconic buildings in human history, the Empire State Building.
Buro Happold's extensive decarbonization team includes Julie Janiski, Integrated Design Principal and Decarbonization Lead; Ian Booth, Engineering Principal in Charge of BH's Empire State Realty Trust (ESRT) portfolio; and Astrid Sardinas, Associate Mechanical Engineer.
Together, they will provide an overview of key elements of decarbonization as well as a deep dive into some of the lessons learned decarbonizing the Empire State building as part of a portfolio-wide initiative led by ESRT. Julie, Ian, and Astrid will discuss the economics behind decarbonization and utilizing technology to optimize buildings and reduce carbon use.
You’ll walk away with a better understanding of:
• The greatest challenge to decarbonizing cities in the next 20 years.
• The existing pathways to reducing emissions.
• A better idea of where the industry is heading and where we will see new opportunities and new market verticals.
• The large-scale government assistance available for building owners, developers and asset managers to decarbonize buildings
