The rivalry in AI between the US and China is intensifying. The latest shock has been the arrival of China's DeepSeek which has shattered the myth of US AI dominance. It has also immediately called into question the US model of innovation in AI and the efficacy of the $500T Stargate Project.
How the development and absorption of AI proceeds in this rivalry will have critical consequences for the global economy and the balance of power. Moreover, along with the many benefits to mankind from AI, a fierce AI arms race is also intensifying. Already AI is being introduced into online cyber warfare, as well as, in the operation of a few leading edge weapon systems.
But a new US President with a new Administration and a new Congress has taken power in Washington. How the new US government will deal with these many challenges and how it will balance the often conflicting military and commercial needs in developing Frontier AI is only just emerging.
To begin to understand just what is at stake for the US in this rivalry and how US national policies for Frontier AI development will attempt to shape both our businesses and the world, we will hear from two speakers deeply involved in formulating US AI policy.
To bring us the latest developments and insights into US AI policy Ylli Bajraktari, President of Eric Schmidt’s Special Competitive Studies Project (SCSP) foundation, will share the SCSP’s recommendations to President Trump for US leadership in AI and joining him will be Rep. Scott Franklin of Florida, a three term Congressman and a member of YPO Gold, who will share where Congress may stand on some of the most important AI policy issues facing democratic nations.
This session will right-set YPOers globally on the next era of AI technology and policy:
What YPOers can do to understand the risks of AI and expand peace and prosperity.
What the US government can do to help maintain a US lead in Frontier AI.
What government can do to help businesses safely adopt AI and ensure that its workforce is prepared to work with AI.
What the government and business can do to push back against authoritarian influence, disinformation and active measures, domestic and foreign, which undermine the social cohesion necessary to maintain democracy and which spread bespoke realities that AI can supercharge.
